Left for the El Salto church at 9:00AM to begin our work project. The church had hired a crew to apply the plaster over the bare brick walls. Our job was to prepare the plaster. This consisted of sifting 6 wheelbarrows of sand, wheeling into the church, dumping it onto the floor, adding ½ bag of powdered cement, and a bag of lime. Once this was mixed, a well was made in the middle and 7 buckets of water was dumped inside and then the mixing with shovels began. Needless to say after doing this for 7 hours, everyone was exhausted and ready to go to our host’s homes. Upon arriving at our host’s homes, we were treated with a delicious homemade Mexican meal. You might say our accommodations were a little less than what we are used to. (or A lot less)!!!!! No showers, no sinks in the bathroom, toilet needed to be flushed with a bucket of water. However, our hosts were more than congenial and served us delicious meals. As Megan puts it, we are truly blessed living in America!!
